Significant Career Accomplishments
- May 1998, developed one of the first regional pilot programs for the Free Hand System, an implanted computerized device within the arm that restores function to a quadriplegic upper limb
- April 1998, Instrumental in lobbying Congress, the FAA, and the NTSB in passing the Aviation Medical Assistance Act that mandated all airlines carry expanded medical kits, including an automatic defibrillator; increased flight attendant training; and a federal Good Samaritan law.
- December 1994, Performed one of the first toe-to-thumb transplants in the southern region of the U.S.
- 1993, Founded the Willis-Knighton Medical Center/ Louisiana Hand & Upper Extremity Institute Regional Replanation Program: center focusing on the reattachment and reconstruction of severed limbs and body parts, servicing a regional area between Dallas, New Orleans, Jackson, and Memphis.
